Communications Management

This interdisciplinary program is for public relations professionals with full-time experience.

If you're a public relations practitioner interested in earning a master's degree in communications management through an innovative distance-learning format, our program may be for you. This interdisciplinary, 36-credit program combines courses in public relations, business and leadership, fusing the knowledge, skills and abilities needed for career advancement in the ever-changing public relations profession. The program received the 2011 PR Education Program of the Year Award from PRWeek.

Gain knowledge from three SU schools in one degree

Now in its 20th year, this fully accredited program includes courses from the Newhouse School (which confers the degree) as well as the Martin J. Whitman School of Management and the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs.

As an enrolled student, you will meet with faculty at the beginning of each semester for short, on-site residencies in Syracuse and New York City and then study and prepare assignments from wherever you live and work. Our mid-career students come from all over the U.S. and around the globe, developing a network that lasts long after graduation.

Tony D'Angelo elected as 2018 PRSA chair

The Leadership Assembly of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) elected Anthony W. D’Angelo, APR, Fellow PRSA, chair of the society for 2018. D’Angelo, who is a professor of practice in public relations at the Newhouse School, has served as PRSA’s chair-elect on the National Board of Directors for 2017, and takes over the position beginning Jan. 1, 2018.

Maria Russell joined the Newhouse public relations faculty in September 1986 after more than 16 years of professional public relations practice. Russell's professional accomplishments have brought her numerous national communications awards and recognition. In 1999, she was selected for membership in The Arthur W. Page Society. Russell currently serves on the governing boards of The Plank Center for Public Relations Studies at the University of Alabama and is the 2013 chair of PRSA’s College of Fellows. In 2012, the New York Chapter/PRSA honored her with the Philip Dorf Award for outstanding mentorship of students and young professionals. In 2017, she was awarded the Patrick Jackson Award for Distinguished Service to the PRSA.
