May 30, 2017

Jesse Dougherty '16 was among several Newhouse students honored by the Society of Professional Journalists Mark of Excellence Awards, recognizing the best in student journalism. Dougherty, currently a staff sports writer for the Washington Post, won top honors in the Sports Column Writing category for his work in the Daily Orange.

The NewsHouse's Dome 35 project, celebrating the 35th anniversary of the Carrier Dome, took the Best Multimedia category. The project was produced as part of a class taught by Jon Glass, Collaborative Media Room general manager, and Greg Munno, assistant professor in newspaper and online journalism, with assistance from web developer and adjunct faculty Jeff Passetti.

Joe Bloss, currently a senior in broadcast and digital journalism, was a finalist in the Radio In-Depth Reporting category for his piece "The Lost Tapes: How the Cassette Found Its Way Back."

These winners were among Newhouse’s nine northeast regional winners and 14 regional finalists announced earlier this spring.
